Whole Wheat Brownies

I'm sure you are getting tried of all the quilts and sewing and are in need of something sweet again. Well this will hopefully satisfy your craving of chocolate and not ruin your diet. Yes brownies that are light and fudgy and gooey and all of those wonderful things. Darn now I need a brownie. Now I know when someone says whole wheat brownie you are thinking eww! but in fact they don't taste it all. If you didn't know what was in them you would love them just as much.

The original recipe is from Everyday Food and I just added more chocolate to it. It helped to make them a bit more fudgy, as I prefer my brownies to be.

Whole Wheat Brownies
Makes 16

6 tablespoons butter
8 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/4 cup applesauce
1 egg
1 Hershey's milk chocolate bar broken into chunks

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 8 x 8 dish with foil then lightly spray. If you have excess wipe it off.

In a small saucepan on low combine butter and semi sweet chocolate, melt gently stirring often. In a bowl combine flours, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. In another large bowl combine sugar, applesauce, and egg mix until combined.

When the butter and chocolate mixture is melted add to the applesauce mixture stirring well. Then add in the flour mixture. Pour into pan and top with broken candy bar.

Bake for about 35 minutes. Let cool completely on wire rack before cutting.

Enjoy!!
