I made Mom a quilt. It seems like I have made one for everyone but her and dad, so I thought, it would be fitting to make one and give it to her for Mother's day this year.
I love the fabric, they are some of her favorite colors.
I did a star pattern that I have been looking at for a long time. It turned out really well, though I would have liked it better if the star had "popped" more, it would have if I had used a brighter color, but knowing it was for Mom, I knew she would like the brown better.
I will be making this pattern again, it was fun, a bit complicated, but the results were beautiful.
Happy Mother's Day Mom, thanks for being my best friend. I love you!!
xoxo Heather

J's Birthday Quilt
That pink and green sneak peek I gave you last month, well it was for my friend J for her birthday. Here is the finished quilt, at first I thought it was pretty, but when I picked out the backing and saw how it looked completed I fell in love with it. I just hope that she loves it too.
This one was a fun and fairly simple one to do. I made it large enough to cuddle up on the couch with and still have extra if you are snuggling with someone else. While picking it up the ladies said they were inspired and were in the process of making there own pinwheel quilt. They showed me a new trick of how to make pinwheels, it will be so much faster. That and it felt pretty good to know that I had inspired someone else to make the same pattern.

G's Birthday Quilt
Remember the red and black sneak peak from earlier this month, well that was for my friend G for her birthday. A few years ago I made one of my girlfriends a quilt for her birthday, then life (babies) got in the way and I never got around to making quilts for my other friends.
I had never made this pattern before and it was fun, and fairly easy. I love the red, black and white colors of this quilt they are just perfect (to me). I hope she loves it too. I made this big enough for watching movies on the couch and cuddling with kids. I know mine always want to share when I get out my blanket too.

Baby L's Quilt
C's teacher is pregnant and will be leaving just after spring break. I decided it would be fun to throw her a small baby shower for her in her class. They have been with her all year, watching her grown and they are excited about the new baby too. As my gift I made her a quilt for her new addition.
It is bright, cheery, and very pretty. I love the pok-a-dots and the back is minkie so it is super soft too.
I will put it in a bag for her, so she won't know about it until she opens it, but this is how all my quilts look when I give them. I just hope she loves it.

Noah's Ark Quilt
This last weekend Mom and I threw a baby shower for her boss. Mom asked me to make her a quilt and since I have known K for around 7 years now, I would have either way. They don't know if it is a boy or girl, so we tried to keep the colors neutral. The top is a Noah's Ark fabric and the backing is a flannel giraffe print. It turned out very cute.

Purple Heart Quilt
Instead of buying more fabric I decided that it would be better to go through the fabric that I have collected and to start making quilts from it, since that was why I purchased it in the first place. This is the first of one of those quilts.
Since I was a bit crazy and organzied all my fabric by color, so there will probably be a few quilts that are in the same color range, it is just because there was that much fabric in the box. I have problems, it's okay.
This is just the top, I will take it in to be quilted later this week, or perhaps next depending on how much time I have.

Projects.....
I have been in project mode lately, and it is all about the sewing. At the moment I have no less than 6 quilts that I am working on, and 4 more that I am doing to make. The ones that are currently being worked on are in all states of being finished. One just needs the binding rolled and whip stitched, another needs binding sewn on then stitched and I have one (probably last one) that I am hand quilting. Three are being sewn and while I never sew more than one at a time with the patterns that I am using it was simpler to just get them through the first step then work on them individually. Now that they are through that step, I can get them finished in the afternoons when I have a moment or two.
As soon as I have them done I will share pictures. It does take awhile for the finished product though. I can cut and sew a child (crib size) quilt in two days or less, it just depends on the amount of time I have. It is getting it quilted that takes about 6 weeks. Really it is more like a two month process for them to be totally completed.
They are a work of love that I enjoy making and giving. That being said, I am considering selling a few of my quilts, so I am asking you, is that something that you would buy? Would you purchase a handmade quilt for someone? These would be pre-made, and at this time I wouldn't take orders because life happens and sometimes I don't have time to sew. Let me know what you think.

Baby D’s Quilt
Last month I gave Sis baby D's quilt at her shower. I never got around to posting the picture of it. It was quite easy to make and if you would like I can send you the pattern for it.

I don't actually have a pattern for most of my quilts. I just use bits and pieces of ones that I like and then put them together.
This was a really fun quilt to make. I don't have a close up but it is Noah's ark with a zebra print border and backing. I have another one in at the quilt store being quilted now that is also so cute and I can't wait to give it to its special person too.

Blue and Yellow Pinwheel

I finished this last night while hubby and I were watching TV. I had sewn the binding on over the weekend, but I hadn't had a chance to sit and finish the edge. I do the finish work by hand and this one took me about 2 hours to complete. It is cute and bright and I hope the recipient get lots of use out of it.

Sewing projects
I have been sewing a lot lately. Tis the season for it. I usually start sewing in November and will continue on until about March, by then the weather is getting nice enough to go out and get things done. This year I have 12 quilts that I am making. Most will be given away to friends/acquaintances who are expecting. I am considering selling a few of them, but I don't know if I can get out what I put in. I don't have as much time as I usually do to get them all done. With the move coming up I need to get them all done now, so I don't have to worry about it while I am trying to unpack.
All of my quilts are usually baby size it just makes it easier. I did do a queen size quilt a while back and gave it to hubby as a birthday gift a few years ago. Other than that I prefer the smaller quilts that are easy to get done. Of the 12 that I need to do I have 6 done. A few of them I love, some not so much. Sometimes they just don't turn out how you picture them to. I have them in at the quilters now having them long arm quilted. In the past I have always hand quilted them, but with that many to do I just don't have the time. I also found that as nice as it is to have a hand quilted quilt when it comes to children they don't hold up as well as if they are machine quilted.
When I get them back I will post pictures of them.
