Apple Butter

Last week while I was browsing on Tasty Kitchen I found a recipe for apple butter. My Mom would make it every year after we were done with applesauce. Well I had some apples sitting in the garage waiting to be used so I thought what the heck, it is delicious. Jump on over and give it a try. You will love it.

  1. I may have to try this next year. I made some apple butter this year, but wasn't super-pleased with the result; a friend sent me her recipe, but she forgot to include sugar in her ingredient list! I made it, assuming it was supposed to be a sugar-free recipe. And while it is fairly sweet and tasty, it didn't brown and thicken quite as much as I had wanted it to, even though I cooked it (in the crockpot) for a very long time. Now that I know it was supposed to have sugar after all, I'm wondering if that would have helped with the thickening and browning too.

  2. I still have bags of apples from our trees in the garage area as well, so I thought goodie - I'd try this, as I'm making a lot of applesauce. But then I saw... canning. I just don't have time to can right now, but I'll save this and maybe some year I'll try it. :) Thanks.
