Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Everyone has a favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, well this is my Mom's. It is the one I know by heart, the one that I grew up eating and making, and now the one that I make for my kids and I still love too. The only thing that I changed was the butter. Mom's recipe calls for 1/2 cup shortening. I changed it to butter instead. You can go either way, they are both good.

I also use this recipe when I make skillet cookies. I will show you that one later this week...

Mom's Chocolate Chip cookies
Makes about 2 dozen
1 stick unsalted butter
6 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips
1 tablespoon water (if needed).

Preheat oven to 350 degrees line two sheet pans with parchment or silpats

Cream butter and sugar, add in egg and vanilla when mixed well add in dry ingredients. Then add in chocolate chips. If the dough doesn't seem wet enough add in 1 teaspoon of water until it is as you like it. You won't need the full tablespoon. Use a medium scoop and bake for 10-12 minutes. Let sit for a few minutes then transfer to cooling rack.

Enjoy!!
