What Not To Wear

A few weeks ago when the boys were sick, all M wanted to do was cuddle on the couch or be rocked. So I got in some afternoon TV time that never happens. I watch TV yes, but it is always in the evening with Hubby, and we usually watch something that we have DVR'd from a week or so ago. Anyway flipping through the channels I found What Not To Wear. I had watched it a few times back in July when I had pneumonia, but hadn't thought much about it since then. I thought I was doing okay and then I realized I need to examine my wardrobe a bit, that or I may end up on that show.

It isn't that my style is horrible, it is just really boring. I live in jeans and t-shirts 90% of the time. During the summer it is shorts and tank tops. I have never been a dress wearer, I am just not comfortable in them, though I am sure if I tried harder I could get use to them. That and living on a farm with three boys, it just doesn't say get dressed up. I do try to look nice when I head to town, I almost always do my hair and makeup (on the days that I don't means someone is sick) and my clothes are usually cute, but again usually jeans and a t-shirt. Really grocery shopping doesn't really need much more than that. I guess I just doesn't feel overly put together. Most of the time I just throw on what looks good at that moment.

I do have some nice clothes/outfits in my closet, and when we go out for date night or business I do dress it up. My biggest problem is if I don't feel comfortable in the clothes then I won't wear them. The problem with that is I am not giving them or me a chance. I know I have issues.....I'm working on it. That is the problem. I need to get out of my comfort zone and move on. Easier said than done.

1. Finding clothing that fits right and looks good on me isn't always the easiest thing. I am 5'4" and I have a short torso, so finding clothing that hits the right points and stays away from all the bad ones isn't always the easiest thing to do, and while I love shopping just as much as the next girl it can be really hard when nothing is going right.

2. After losing the 35 pounds I had to get rid of everything that I had and I at the time I replaced most of it with inexpensive pieces. I am now working on buying nicer pieces, but that takes time and I think that is probably my biggest downfall. I just don't have much in my closet.

3. My other issue is I live in a farming community on the west coast. The style of the area that I live is VERY casual. If I were to wear some of the items that they suggest on the show I would be stared at, and ridiculed.

So I'm sure I have come across as a rambling blond, and made no sense at all, but that is what you get for a post that took me way to many days to write.

I always take suggestions. Thanks!

  1. I love What Not to Wear, though I haven't watched it in years. When my husband was in college and we lived in student housing at OSU and got free cable, I watched it every week!

My best suggestion--check out Restyle Resale in North Albany. They have stylish, quality used clothes for REALLY reasonable prices. I always come out of there happy with whatever I've found, which I can't say about most stores.

  2. Oh, and also, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You always look great whenever I see you--and as you point out, we live in a very casual area around here! Wearing clothes that are reasonable for your community makes sense as well.

  3. I feel the same way!! I don't have a professional job. I'm a florist so black pants and my uniform shirt are 5 days per week. And some of their stuff is too dressy for playing on the floor with kids.
Try www.missussmartypants.com totally worth the money!
