Dinosaur Cupcakes

As you know it is birthday week, and K & M had there birthday party last Saturday. We invited their friends and we went to play at Frogs and Pollywog's downtown Albany. The kids had a great time and the best part for me was all I had to do was show up with cupcakes, everything else was taken care of. They played a game, did a craft, had cupcakes and just enjoyed being together. The kids each got a pollywog dollar and instead of the normal goodie bag we decided to give each child an extra 3 pollywog dollars to spend. This way they get something that they really want and the parents don't have a bag of pencils, cheap toys and such to bother with.

The boys each got to request a theme for there birthday, M requested dinosaurs, I thought easy enough, until I tried to figure out how to make a cupcake look like a dinosaur. The last few years I have just bought a cake pan and made them a theme cake, well this year I decided I wanted to go no fuss with forks, and plates so we did cupcakes instead. That is when I got the bright idea to make tiny cookies and stick them on top of the cupcakes.

I think they turned out really cute and the best part was that M loved them. They took a while to decorate, but it was worth it for the look on his face.

The dinosaur cookies were decorated with royal icing the the cupcakes were topped with buttercream.

FYI: I wasn't asked to write anything about Frogs and Pollywogs. They know me because I spend money there and that is it. I think they are a wonderful locally owned toy store, they have high quality toys that my kids love.

  2. Nice! I love F&P too. Some friends and I have been taking advantage of their Lilypad Lounge play area upstairs, and it's so nice to have a place to sit and talk. Glad to hear their birthday parties are fun too.
