As part of the decision process for the Cake Slice Bakers we get to vote each month on the cake that we want to bake. Some months you are surprised by which cake wins and then you worry about if it will be eaten. Those are always the ones that go the best.
This month I did not think I would have worry since I already knew my family like Boston cream pie. Well I was wrong as they didn't like this version at all. It was very eggy and just not quite right. It was simple to put together, but it is not one that I would make again.
That is part of the fun of baking, sometimes it is perfect and other times not so much. Just wait till next month.....
xoxo

It looks soooo beautiful and I am sorry it didn't work for you and your family :( Bummer! :(
ReplyDeleteAww I'm sorry this cake wasn't for you :( Your presentation is lovely though :)
ReplyDeleteHeather...I am with you. This was not my favorite cake...and I AM a Boston Cream Pie lover. But my cake seemed too eggy as well and my pudding never got very thick. So though I love the book, I will not be making this again either. Your pie-lets sure do look pretty, though! : )
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear this didn't work out for you. Looking forward to next month's recipe.
ReplyDeleteAwww, your family did not like this? But it look so prettty!!! My DH seems to enjoy it! He brought two mini cakes to his granddaughter and she devoured them! Till the next bake!
ReplyDeletePity your family didn't go for this one... Mine loved it! BUt then we all need have dislikes don't we ;) That's how we know what we really like! Hazel x
ReplyDeleteI thought I would swing by and let you know of the new things that are going on in our group (maybe you already know all of them, so I apologise if this is repetitive, I just want to make sure I include everyone!)
DeleteWe have a few new, very exciting things coming up in the next few weeks. Starting on August first, it will be the groups 5th anniversary! Paloma has asked for those who can and are willing to participate in a little birthday celebration, to send her a photo of a special cake or bake that you have baked recently, to share on our birthday date. You might like to pop a little 5 candle on it or mention 5 in some way, the choice of bake is yours so it would be great to have you join.
Paloma has also started a Hospitality Committee, which I am part of and why I am posting this message to your blog… to welcome our new bakers to the group, and simply check in with our other bakers to encourage them to bake and continue with the monthly challenges. It is sometimes hard to stay committed, to take an easier road, to not bake at all, be it over work, families or everyday life. I get it…I long for more time in the day too... But I am here to encourage you to bake, to let me know if you need a break, to be part of this group and enjoy yourself!
I would encourage you to check in with us through our Cake Slice group on Facebook if you can, stop by for a chit chat, just to say hello, or ask a silly question! That’s what we are here for!
I look forward to baking with you soon and am so excited to be part of such and amazing group!

Sorry that this was not a winner for your family. One thing I have loved about baking along with the group is that it does force you to make things that you may not have chosen yourself, and like you I have been surprised at recipes I thought would be winners that really weren't my cup of tea, and vice versa. And as you say, there is always next month :)
ReplyDeleteSorry the family didn't like it, but as you say there is always next month!
